Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will you be able to update to the standard versions of DQB if you first license the starter version.?

A: Yes, the structure and database for both the starter and standard versions are compatible, so you can update at a later time for an additional license fee.

Q: Will you be able to downgrade to the starter version of DQB if you first license one of the standard versions?

A: No, you can move up but you can not move backward for the same company. If you start a new company on a different computer, however, you will be able to license the starter version for that company.

The previously posted schedule of service agreement fees will remain valid until the end of 2009. The 2009 monthly support fee for the new Starter version will be $60.00 (USD). This will be optional, but highly recommended.

Spring Training Also Begins in April

Monday, April 27, will be the first of our group training sessions here at our offices in Pennsylvania. The fees will be the same as before: $150 for those with a service agreement, $220 for those who do not have an agreement. Included will be coffee and breakfast breads to start the day and then lunch and beverages mid-day. Our doors will be open at 8:30 AM and training will begin about 9:00 AM. Typically, once the training material has been covered, the sessions will be open for a mini user group meeting to exchange ideas and discussions.

Because the room size is limited, please let us know as soon as possible if you wish to participate in this, including the name(s) of those who will be coming and when they will arrive. For Sunday arrivals prior to dinner time, we will host a group dinner at the Rising Sun Inn, a popular favorite where you can often see the our local buffalos (including the babies!) in the back field.

Naming Your Server

When setting up your network, it is best to pick an easy-to- remember name for your computer server or host. On two recent occasions, however, we have had reports of unexplained missing connection to the server that runs DentaLab. Upon further inspection of the underlying network configuration, we noticed that a generic name like "SERVER" was used for the computer. This type of name was in conflict with the naming convention for the lab's ISP (Internet Service Provider). As a result, the ISP responded to requests for this computer by essentially saying that the computer does not exist.

To prevent problems like this where the error is not immediately apparent and not always quickly recognized, we recommend naming the computer in a more thoughtful way. For example, here at Mainstreet, for one of our servers that handles our development and testing needs, we choose a name "MSSIDEVELDQB" which means Mainstreet Systems & Software, Inc. Development of DentaLab for QuickBooks.

We recommend that you choose a name such as ADAMLAB that is easy to remember and that you let us know for your records here in case a future support issue needs the name of your server.

No...No...No!

One of the reasons the DentaLab for QuickBooks system installs so easily has been that the behind-the-scenes settings and file locations are already in place. In addition, the installation CD includes quick guides for installation and startup. During several recent support calls, however, we traced problems to the users having tried to change these settings. Please do not do this and instruct your local hardware/network consultants to also not do this.

Should you need to move DQB to another computer or change the configuration of your network, please call to request our white paper for uninstalling and moving. This will help guide you or your consultant through the process correctly.
